Mullein Vinegar Recipe

If you don't have mullein growing in your own backyard, you've probably seen it growing in roadside ditches or abandoned lots. This traditional herb is also referred to as nature's Mucinex due to its respiratory healing properties. See the recipe below for preparation, dosage, and storage information.

Ingredients You Will Need

Here’s a list of what you’ll need for this mullein vinegar recipe:

  • First-year mullein leaves

  • Raw apple cider vinegar

  • Clean glass jar

  • Plastic lid (or parchment paper under a metal lid)

  • Fine mesh strainer

How to Prepare the Mullein Vinegar

Follow these steps:

  1. Harvest healthy first-year mullein leaves.

  2. Dry the leaves completely. We recommend laying them out on a screen or tennis racket (whatever you have available).

  3. Fill a clean jar halfway with dried leaves.

  4. Cover completely with raw apple cider vinegar. Make sure all of the leaves are submerged.

  5. Seal the jar and store in a cool, dark place for 8 weeks. Shake occasionally.

  6. Strain and bottle the vinegar.

Store the tincture in a cool, dark cupboard. Best used within 6-12 months.

Dosage

Take 1-2 teaspoons diluted in water, up to 3 times daily, or use in salad dressings or other recipes.
